Home based instruction through April 3
March 17, 2020
Dear Italy ISD Families:
To keep you informed, Ellis County put a disaster declaration in place in an effort to prevent community spread of the COVID-19 virus. As a result of this declaration and Ellis County Judge Todd Little’s recommendation for school building closure, we will offer at-home instruction beginning Monday, March 23 through April 3. We will continue to monitor and assess this situation and determine whether we can reopen campus buildings on or before Friday, April 3. This week, our teachers are designing engaging lessons for students that will be delivered primarily through online Google Classroom or Schoology; all of our secondary students have used these platforms and we are giving our elementary teachers crash courses if needed. Paper pencil lessons will also be in place if necessary.
More specific information will be released by the end of the day Thursday. Our offices will have phones manned at Stafford Elementary (972-483-6342), and Italy HS (972-483-7411) from 9:00am-Noon on Wednesday 3/18, Thursday 3/19, and Friday 3/20. The grab and go lunch service will begin Monday 3/23 11:30-12:30 daily Monday through Friday for any students under age 18.
Our special education, 504 and English language learners will continue to receive services. Teachers and administrators will reach out to those families to communicate how those services will be delivered.
We are in unprecedented times and making decisions as quickly as we can as information becomes available. Your support, encouragement and patience have been invaluable. On behalf of all IISD teachers and staff, thank you. Together, we will get through and continue to make a difference in the lives of our children. Gladiator Strong!
